The Alberta Champions Cup Hockey Tournament has developed into a truly all Alberta
AAA Hockey Tournament, with over 600 games been played simultaneously in Edmonton and Calgary.
In 2011 over 240 hockey teams participated to make this the largest icebreaker hockey tournament in Canada. We believe we are the largest tournament in the world that offers, full 60 stop time hockey games.
Last year in over 725 games, 721 started on time as scheduled. All games were completed in full. Including playoff games with overtime. Over 1800 man games for the referee / timekeepers. Stats boards were kept at each Arena and all teams knew within minutes of the final round robin games when they played in the finals. We played out of 16 double Arenas and 7 single arenas, for a total of 39 sheets of ice. Even the Zambonis were in top form with no mechanical hiccups. Check out our full list of tournament features. It all equaled a very successful year for the Alberta Champions Cup. 2011 promises to be even better.
From our humble beginnings over 9 years ago as the Icebreaker Challenge to 2011 and the Alberta Champions Cup, the tournament has grown to be considered on of the best in Canada. Because of the number of teams involved we are able to tier the divisions for the best hockey competition.
We thank our participants who have always played hard and provided great competition and suggestions as how to "tweak" this AAA Hockey Event. We have taken these suggestions and fine tuned the tournament even more for 2011.
